1988 Mitsubishi Montero 2-Door 4WD

VIN: JJ417059

You are viewing a rust-free 1st Generation Mitsubishi Montero 2-door

The very capable off-road ability of this four-wheel drive utility vehicle makes it destined to join the ranks of the much sought after FJ Land-Cruisers here in the US. In recent years the pricing and resale value of the Gen-1 Montero has shown a steep increase and will continue as the word begins to come in from other countries that have already recognized this as a coveted off road collectible for many years. This is an opportunity to get a clean unit at an affordable price.

The current mileage on this unit is 232,704.

The owner is a mechanic that purchased this in 2004 with 216,000 miles on it. At that time the engine was removed for overhaul, the front and rear axles, and transmission disassembled inspected and resealed, and all worn bearings replaced. The clutch is a new heavy-duty unit. Also all suspension items were rebuilt including; upper/lower control arm bushings and shafts, upper/lower ball joints, sway bar bushings, and leaf-spring bushings.  It has been stored indoors for the last ten years.

The engine is the inline-4 cylinder G54B with 2.6L displacement. It has had the updated timing chain with removal of the balancer that previously would fail on these engines. The original carburetor was replaced with a Weber 38DGE. The original jet-valve type cylinder head was replaced with an upgraded non-jet valve head that is ported and polished for performance. The original exhaust manifold was replaced with headers for increased performance. Overall the performance of the engine is far superior to the somewhat anemic stock engine. The engine is also a good candidate for turbocharging as this cylinder block boasts the piston cooling jets that came with the Starion version of the G54B. The alternator was replaced 2000 miles ago with a new Mitsubishi OEM unit just because it was original. The original was non-failed and will go with the unit as a spare.

The body has 2-inches of urethane spacers and the suspension has an additional 2-inches of lift to provide clearance for the 32X11.50 R15 BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain tires on Eagle Alloy 15x10 wheels. The spare is the same. The tires have approximately 3,500 miles on them with plenty of wear to go. The lift on this will allow up to 35” tires but the 32” provide for a good combination of on and off road usage without having to use the low-range on the transfer case.

The owner has the original wheels and body hardware, as well as most of the original engine parts in case the buyer wants to bring it back to its original “low rider” stature.

The unit also has an oil accumulator (for off-roading oil pressure stability on uneven terrain), and an on-board air compressor for airing back up the tires for on-road use.

The seats are original and the driver’s side has a tear on the outboard side. The paint has some minor scratches and dings. The transmission is moist with oil, but does not drip oil. The engine has minor smoke on initial startup (valve guide seals). The stereo does not work, but the original is still intact and works if hooked up. It was disconnected when an aftermarket unit was put in. The dash has room for a stereo and CB if desired.

The owner also has many new spare parts that will go with this beautiful SUV to the lucky bidder if they wish.

Buyer is responsible for shipping within one-week of sale. Sale is final upon receipt of cashier’s check or money order for the full sale amount.

Thank you!

Watch Mitsubishi break the EV record at Pikes Peak

Wed, 09 Jul 2014

Take a listen folks - you're hearing the eventual future of motorsports. This is Greg Tracy and the Mitsubishi MiEV Evolution III as they assault the treacherous course at Pikes Peak in just 9:08.188.
This run is significant for a number of reasons. As we recapped in our Pikes Peak finale post, Tracy's run was a mere two seconds off the best overall time at this year's event, snagging him and Mitsubishi second place overall, as well as first in the Electric Modified class and the fourth fastest time ever recorded. Perhaps more importantly, though, Tracy thoroughly trounced the previous EV record at Pikes Peak, beating the legendary Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima's 2013 best of 9:46.530.
It's an impressive feat, and now you can experience the whole run from as near a first-person viewpoint as you're going to get. Scroll down and have a look.

Nissan, Renault in talks to merge as one company

Thu, Mar 29 2018

Nissan and Renault have been tied together as an alliance for nearly 20 years, but now the Japanese and French automakers are discussing whether to merge. Bloomberg, citing unidentified sources familiar with the confidential talks, reports that the idea is to form a larger, single publicly traded company to better compete against giants like Toyota and Volkswagen. It would also mark the end of the alliance that first began in 1999 and also includes Mitsubishi, in which Nissan acquired a controlling interest in 2016. A full merger would help the companies pool resources to develop electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles and car-sharing services. It would involve Nissan giving Renault shareholders stock in the new company, with Nissan shareholders also gaining shares in the new company, Bloomberg reports. The new company would be run by Carlos Ghosn, the current chairman of both companies. But any such merger, as you might expect, would be complicated, in part by geopolitics. The French government owns a 15-percent stake in Renault, and both the French and Japanese governments might be reluctant to let go of their respective home-grown brands. Currently, Renault owns a 43-percent stake in Nissan, while Nissan owns 15 percent of its French partner. Reuters reported recently that Ghosn proposed buying most of the French government's stake in Renault as part of plans for a closer tie-up. The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance already has been working to establish a $200 million mobility tech fund to invest in startups, a reflection of how seismic changes in the auto industry have left many legacy companies scrambling to stay current. Nissan in 2016 paid a reported $2.3 billion to acquire 34 percent of Mitsubishi in order to share platforms, technology, manufacturing and other resources. Carlos Ghosn, a year after arrest, still seeks trial date and access to evidence

Tue, Nov 19 2019

TOKYO — A year after his arrest, Nissan ex-Chairman Carlos Ghosn remains stuck in Tokyo under stringent bail conditions and without a trial date as he seeks access to a trove of Nissan emails and other evidence to fight charges of financial misconduct. His lawyers have asked a court to grant access to 6,000 pieces of evidence collected from Nissan such as electronic communications, which they say is crucial for a fair trial, showed an Oct. 4 court filing seen by Reuters. The once-feted executive has spent 129 days in detention since his arrest shortly after his private jet touched down at a Tokyo airport on Nov. 19, 2018. He faces four charges — which he denies — including hiding income and enriching himself through payments to dealerships in the Middle East. Nissan sacked Ghosn, saying its internal investigations revealed misconduct ranging from understating his salary while he was its chief executive, and transferring $5 million of Nissan funds to an account in which he had an interest. An earlier court ruling allowed prosecutors to hand back evidence to Nissan during pretrial wrangling over witnesses and evidence similar to the U. S. discovery process. If prosecutors are "given the freedom to unilaterally delete the collected evidence and return it to relevant parties, this is equivalent to granting the investigative agencies the right to destroy evidence," showed the filing to the Tokyo District Court. The lawyers also asked the court to rescind the earlier ruling, saying some evidence could be erased by Nissan to protect confidential business information. They argued the "ruling deprives Mr. Ghosn of his right to receive a fair public trial by an impartial court," as it enabled prosecutors to view and use the evidence and withhold it from the defense. Prosecutors are not required to hand over all evidence they or the police gather during investigations unless ordered by the court, unlike in the U.S. discovery process where prosecutors and defense lawyers disclose the evidence they intend to present in court. A spokeswoman for the Tokyo prosecutors' office said the office could not comment on individual cases. A Nissan spokeswoman declined to comment. Ghosn's lawyers have also asked the court to dismiss all charges against him, accusing prosecutors of colluding with government officials and Nissan executives to oust him to block any takeover of the automaker by French alliance partner Renault SA, of which Ghosn was also chairman.
