1987 Mercedes Benz 300TD Turbo
Currently 227k miles - will rise as the car is driven regularly

I'm selling my 1987 Mercedes 300TD Turbo with 227k miles. It's Arctic White on the outside with BLUE MB-Tex interior. The car has never been in an accident and is driven nearly everyday. I have 2 other Mercedes and a truck, so it's time to thin the herd for now. I've mainly used this as my highway commuter to my parent's home which is a ~700 mile round-trip... she's always given me around 27 mpg on winter diesel and around 29-31 mpg on summer blend. Always has gotten 3200 mile oil changes with Mobil Delvac or Shell Rotella 15W-40 and a Bosch or Mann oil filter.

I bought the car earlier this year from a businessman in Janesville, WI. I have an entire stack of service records from his ownership from around 2003 to 2013 when I bought it. That's the only period of service records I have for the car as the gentlemen in Janesville couldn't locate those he had from the owner before him (a dentist in Madison, WI). From my understanding, there have only been three owners of the car (including me). The records I do have address MANY of the W124 chassis' issues, especially issues that the OM603 diesel engines have with age.

Below is some of the more notable work done to the car in recent years, all major areas have been addressed on the car and she's ready to go for years to come!
  • Engine vacuum pump replaced with updated design - no exploding vacuum pumps
  • Air condition system was overhauled in 2006 (New AC Compressor, Drier, and associated AC components) Has been converted to R134 and blows cold. AC works great! Work done was to the tune of $741.30!
  • Transmission has been completely resealed (doesn't leak a drop) - NO REVERSE DELAYS, shifts firm and crisp with no slipping! Transmission is solid as solid can be. Trans fluid is clean, bright red and does NOT smell burn. No flaring either. Shifts quickly and keeps the car in it's power band.

I do not have any service records in regards to the rear self leveling suspension - it works flawlessly and I'm always careful to watch the fluid level. The rear levels with loads, it does NOT bounce and is very tight with no leaks. Suspension all around the car is nice and tight, no creaks or squeaks going down the road. Very solid. Bushings around the car are all in excellent condition.

ENGINE:
  • 227k+ miles on an all original 3.0L Inline 6 TurboDiesel engine (otherwise known as an OM603 among Benz circles). The engine has no lifter ticks, no knocks and no abnormal noises. Turbo spools great and for a diesel it's fairly quick! I timed the 0-60 around 11-13 seconds, nothing scientific just my foot, eyes, and my stopwatch. Not blazing fast, but more than adequate to get you going. Overtaking on the highway is a breeze. Park the car over cardboard and it won't leak a drop of oil. Turbo feed and drain and bone dry, no oil leaks there. No fuel leaks, oil cooler lines are dry, oil cooler doesn't leak and is clean.
INTERIOR:
  • The blue MB-Tex interior is in amazing shape and it should be. It wears like armor. The carpets are all very clean with no stains, very well kept. I only have bottled drinks in the car, nothing that can be easily spilled. I have no kids and my Husky has never been in the car. Interior smells good, it's a NON smoker car, no sagging headliner, no pools of water after it rains. All the seats are supportive and are not sagging, like these early W124's are known for having. No tears in the seats, or on any of the upholstery in the car. The driver's side sun visor seems to be a bit loose. It clicks when pulled down and would best be replaced. It stays out of the way and does it's job of blocking the sun. The dash has cracks, nothing a nice dash cover couldn't solve. I haven't paid much attention to it though. The rear seats are missing their headrests. The owner before me said he had them somewhere, but hasn't gotten back to me regarding them.
EXTERIOR:
  • The arctic white exterior is in great shape for the age of the car. It shines bright, but like many cars this old and driven, it's not perfect. There are some rock chips on the front of the car that have always been treated with small dabs of touch up paint so it doesn't rust. Paint is clear and original around the car. As a lifetime midwest car it's bound to have a couple spots of rust. The front passenger fender has a small rust hole, the passenger side rear quarter has a rust spot. The complete underbody of the car is in amazing condition. The nuts and bolts all around the car are all in good shape and not extremely rusted to where they'd explode when you try removing them. Those are really the only two spots of rust on the car, the rest is very clean. I've tried my best to take some pictures underneath and around the car. The front bumper skin had an encounter with a parking stop at some point.

Pictures
I've tried to describe the car as accurately as possible, but pictures are worth 1000 words. I've taken some time to take as many pictures as I could of the car so you know what you're bidding on. You can find an entire album of pictures on my Flickr here: 1987 Mercedes 300TD PICTURES /

If there are any questions, please feel free to contact me at allenkrolik@gmail.com I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have. I am NOT organizing any shipping of the car, I'm a couple minutes away from O'hare airport in Chicago and will be happy to pick you up. I'm also willing to drive the car within 15 miles of O'hare to a shipper if needed. I do require a $500 deposit within 48 hours of auction close. Car will NOT leave me until it's been paid in full. I'll be more than happy to keep the car around 2 weeks after close of auction to give you time to get everything organized. Clear open title in my name, ready to sign over.

Mercedes teases massive new Maybach coupe

Wed, Aug 10 2016

Mercedes-Benz hasn't done a lot with its Maybach brand over the last few years. After killing the slow-selling standalone Maybach line, the badge sat unused, until MB slapped it on a luxed-out S600. But today, Mercedes posted a teaser of a new, two-door Maybach on its social media channels. Immediately given away by the Maybach badge on the C-pillar (and possibly one on the nose), we could be looking at a modern-day Exelero – a successor to Maybach's last coupe, a one-off, 700-horsepower rocket ship that deserved all the Darth Vader's car cliches – capable of extremely high speeds and stunning comfort. Everything from the long hood (better to accommodate some monstrous V12 engine) to the windshield's aggressive rake, to the absurdly long tail, signals a 200-mile-per-hour-plus top speed for this concept. And yes, we're thinking this is a concept. Kick the exposure way up with Photoshop and you can see that the side mirrors are too slim to actually function as normal mirrors – they're almost certainly cameras. Other details? Whatever Mercedes calls its new Maybach, it's going to be huge. According to the caption accompanying the teaser, this car is six meters (19.6 feet) long – that's over three feet longer than an S-Class Coupe and nearly four feet longer than a Bentley Continental GT. Like we said, it's enormous. And that's about all we know. Mercedes dropped this teaser out of the blue, nearly two months before the auto show season kicks off in Paris. It's possible the company could continue to tease out a new Maybach concept until early October, but more likely, we'll see an online debut ahead of the Paris show. Stay tuned. Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG shows up to fight the hottest hatches [w/videos]

Wed, 13 Feb 2013

Fun coincidence. On the same day that Audi announces the unveiling of its new S3 Sportback at the Geneva Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz steals the spotlight by confirming that the all-new A45 AMG will also receive its official debut early next month. Starting life as the entry-level A-Class hatchback, the A45 AMG gets the full AMG treatment, which includes numerous performance, handling and styling upgrades.
Under the hood sits an AMG-tuned 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 breathing through a sport exhaust system helping the five-door produce 360 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired to a seven-speed AMG dual-clutch transmission and power is sent to the ground using 4Matic all-wheel drive. Mercedes-Benz says that the A45 AMG will be able to accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in under 4.5 seconds and it will have a top speed of 155 mph; in the land of hot hatches, it doesn't get much hotter than that. For added performance and handling, AMG has retuned the A-Class' suspension and steering systems and equipped The A45 with a three-stage stability control system that is specific to this car.
Surprisingly, the exterior styling of the A-Class was already sporty enough that the new model doesn't receive too many changes to become the A45 AMG. The biggest alterations include black accents to the chin spoiler, rocker panels and mirror caps, black wheels with red-painted brake calipers and rectangular dual exhaust outlets. Inside, it doesn't take a trained eye to spot the differences. The flat-bottomed sport steering wheel and the numerous red accents throughout the cabin (including the seatbelts!) really help to make this AMG interior stand out; front passengers will also get sport bucket seats that appear to be more than supportive enough for even the most spirited driving conditions.

Gullwing America turns SLS AMG Roadster into stunning 1955 300 SC redux

Thu, 14 Feb 2013

Gullwing America specializes in what it calls "retro styling meets modern technology." It's next demonstration of that is the convertible above, a stylized recreation of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SC (inset) supported by the structure of a 2012 SLS AMG Roadster. Commissioned by a client in Eastern Europe, the resulting car is called the 300 SLC.
The hand-formed aluminum bodywork required just a few changes to the SLS AMG Roadster, namely reworking the headlights into a stacked arrangement of LEDs and relocating the pop-up spoiler behind the cabin. The retro grille and long, straight hood evoke the past, the custom exhaust, height-adjustable suspension, 21-inch wheels up front and 22-inch wheels in back, however, stray a little further from history. The 300 SLC will come with a hardtop and be one-of-a-kind, making it even rarer than its inspiration, of which 92 were made.
If you have any more questions, they can probably be answered in the high-res photo gallery above and press release below.
