Here is probably the lowest milage and nicest all original, never restored,1971 Ford LTDs in existence. This car has just over 14900 miles on it,and it is a true survivor. This car has never been restored, and it looks very nice.I am describing this car honestly, and letting all potential buyers of any flaws or issues. The body has no rust, and the interior has no rips or tears anywhere. The original paint shines nicely and looks nice, but there are a few tiny rock chips here and there. The paint on the right rear quarter extension has some scratches(see pictures),this would be an easy fix for any body shop. This car has several options,429 4 barrel,ps,pb,ac,tilt,cruise,am/fm stereo, bucket style seats with fold down arm rests, rim blow steering wheel, and the woodgrain trim package in the interior. The air conditioning blows cold air as it should. This car was stored inside all of its life, and it shows that it was cared for very well. This car runs and drives, and the brakes, and transmission work great as they should. This car hasnt been driven very much over the last 20 years,so the fuel system will need flushed out.I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter, and i have driven the car just over 100 miles, but once in a while it will sputter.I have put 15 gallons of fresh 93 octane premium fuel in it,but i believe there is still some old poor fuel and residue in the tank, therefore the fuel tank will need removed, cleaned and flushed out before being driven any distance.I recommend the buyer to trailer this car home to avoid any fuel system problems. The tires might even be the originals, and the tread looks great, but you may want to change them for piece of mind if you plan on driving this alot.To my knowledge the only things that dont work on this car are the fuel gauge, and the clock. The original owner owned this car until 2010,and the only reason it was sold was because of his health.I am the third registered owner and the title is clear and in my name.Old cars are only original once, and they are impossible to find in this condition,so dont miss out on this one. This auction is for local pickup only.I WILL NOT SHIP THIS CAR.I am located in central iowa near tama and marshalltown just off of highway 30.Payment is to be in CASH when picked up,NO PAY PAL,NO EXCEPTIONS.This car must be picked up and paid for in full(CASH),within 2 weeks of auctions close. This is a 42 year old car,so there is NO WARRANTY.PLEASE SERIOUS BIDDERS ONLY.If you have 0 feedback contact me before bidding,or your bid maybe cancelled. This car is for sale locally as well,so the auction could be ended early if a serious buyer comes along. If you have any questions i can be reached at 641-751-8225.Thanks and happy bidding.

Car Stories: Owning the SHO station wagon that could've been
Fri, Oct 30 2015A little over a year ago, I bought what could be the most interesting car I will ever own. It was a 1987 Mercury Sable LS station wagon. Don't worry – there's much more to this story. I've always had a soft spot for wagons, and I still remember just how revolutionary the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable were back in the mid-1980s. As a teenager, I fell especially hard for the 220-horsepower 1989 Ford Taurus SHO – so much so that I'd go on to own a dozen over the next 20 years. And like many other quirky enthusiasts, I always wondered what a SHO station wagon would be like. That changed last year when I bought the aforementioned Sable LS wagon, festooned with the high-revving DOHC 3.0-liter V6 engine and five-speed manual transmission from a 1989 Taurus SHO. In addition, the wagon had SHO front seats, a SHO center console, and the 140-mph instrument cluster with mileage that matched the engine. When I bought it, that number was just under 60,000 – barely broken in for the overachieving Yamaha-sourced mill. The engine and transmission weren't the only upgrades. It wore dual-piston PBR brakes with the choice Eibach/Tokico suspension combo in front. The rear featured SHO disc brakes with MOOG cargo coils and Tokico shocks, resulting in a wagon that handled ridiculously well while still retaining a decent level of comfort and five-door functionality. I could attack the local switchbacks while rowing gears to a 7,000-rpm soundtrack just as easily as loading up on lumber at the hardware store. Over time I added a front tower brace to stiffen things a bit as well as a bigger, 73-mm mass airflow sensor for better breathing, and I sourced some inexpensive 2004 Taurus 16-inch five-spoke wheels, refinished in gunmetal to match the two-tone white/gunmetal finish on the car. That, along with some minor paint and body work, had me winning trophies at every car show in town. And yet, what I loved most about the car wasn't its looks or performance, but rather its history. And here's where things also get a little philosophical, because I absolutely, positively love old used cars. Don't get me wrong – new cars are great. Designers can sculpt a timeless automotive shape, and engineers can construct systems and subsystems to create an exquisite chassis with superb handling and plenty of horsepower. But it's the age and mileage that turn machines into something more than the sum of their parts.
Weekly Recap: 2016 CTS-V gives Cadillac new momentum for the new year
Sat, Dec 27 2014It's been a rough year for Cadillac. The historic luxury carmaker been in the news for all of the wrong reasons: Declining sales, ditching its advertising agency and the relocation of its headquarters from Detroit to New York. But in late December, Cadillac reminded everyone what it does best: Build some of the rawest and most compelling luxury sedans in the world, as evidenced by the 2016 CTS-V. This monster churns out 640 horsepower from a supercharged 6.2-liter V8. Sound familiar? That's the Corvette Z06 engine, and it makes this CTS the most powerful production Cadillac ever. It also puts the sporting divisions of the Germans on notice. The new CTS-V easily overpowers the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S 4Matic and its 5.5-liter biturbo V8 rated at 577 hp, and the BMW M5 (with the competition pack) and its 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that pushes out 575 hp. The rear-wheel drive Cadillac can sprint to 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds, which is close to the 3.5-second time turned in by the 4Matic-driven E63 S, and a bit quicker than the 4.1 seconds posted by the M5. With Magnetic Ride Control, General Motors' stout eight-speed automatic transmission (also used in the Corvette), Brembo brakes and a carbon-fiber option package that pretty much builds your car out of carbon fiber – it's clear this Cadillac means business. Truth be told, we expected this CTS-V to deliver. It's been a serious sports sedan for a decade, and the recent generation and its 556-hp arrogance have been particularly memorable. But notice what we're doing here? We're talking about product. Not who makes Cadillac's ads, or if the brand's headquarters has a mailing address in NYC. Like the 2016 ATS-V that's due in the spring, the debut of the 2016 CTS-V (on sale in late summer) is a shot in the arm for Cadillac, and its arrival comes during time of transition. The brand is trying to reinvent itself as a modern luxury maker. It wants new customers, a different image and obviously more sales. Those things are going to take time, but with a 640-hp sledgehammer of a sports sedan on tap for next year, Cadillac can still maintain some of its swagger through all of the change. 1964 Ford GT40 prototype to be auctioned in April
Wed, 12 Mar 2014The Ford GT40 owns a firm spot on the list of the greatest American racecars ever made, being the first car from the United States to take an overall win in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. And now Mecum will auction what it claims is second-oldest GT40 still in existence at its Houston sale on April 12.
The story of the GT40 is fascinating. Henry Ford II attempted to buy Ferrari in the early '60s, but Enzo refused. Ford decided if he couldn't have them, then he would beat the Prancing Horse on the track. Ford went to Carroll Shelby and asked him to spearhead the program. The early cars combined a steel monocoque chassis with Ford's 4.2-liter V8 engine pumping out around 350 horsepower. The first prototype made its public debuted on April 1, 1964, at the New York Auto Show.
Shelby kept building prototypes, including GT/104, which is for sale here. This version featured a lighter steel chassis and was raced at Le Mans in 1964. However, a fire forced it to retire. It was then repainted and had a 4.7-liter (289-cubic-inch) engine fitted. The chassis had its best finish at the 1965 Daytona Continental 2,000 Kilometers where it finished third with Bob Bondurant and Ritchie Ginther behind the wheel. Later that season, it was shipped back to Ford where it was restored and displayed at auto shows until 1971 when the automaker sold it. Since then, it has had many private owners.
