The 1979 Chrysler 300 Cordoba Special Edition was a one-year-only special that Chrysler marketed during some of the company's worst financial times. The Cordoba had been out since 1975 and was a big success for the company, selling nearly 150,000 per year. It was similar to the Monte Carlo and Grand Prix that General Motors sold in those times of a 'personal luxury car'. Big, heavy, V-8 cars with a nice ride and an appetite for lots of gasoline. The 300 was put together with all the high performance parts that Chrysler had in their parts bins for the police cars. It had heavy duty suspension, the largest performance engine at the time, a 360 cubic inch, high performance, 4 barrel carbed affair from the famed Little Red Express truck and the police cars. I had a fairly low-geared rear axle ratio of 3.21:l for a little more performance at the expense of gas mileage. Even the transmission was heavy-duty, so it shifted a little harder and you could hold your foot on the gas pedal longer in each gear. There were 300 badges and decals all over the car, including the inside red interior with a fancy metal-turned look instrument cluster featuring a tachometer along with all the other instruments. All the cars got the red leather interior with a console mounted shifter. Was it a good car? Indeed it was, and they are now considered 'collectible' and the values are rising. It started and ran and drove well, very much like its sister cars, was a little quicker, rode a little rougher and of course, the above-mentioned like for gasoline in larger quantities.
With 70,000 miles this 300 has been very well cared for over the years, the exterior of the car is finished in its original white paint in very good condition with the exception of a few touch ups on the passenger door. The original white paint has held up very well over the years and still has its original red and blue stripes around the car, the lower stainless is in good condition as well as the front and rear bumpers. The cars all original sheet metal and has zero rust issues including the floors as seen in the photos .Original wheels are still in the car with white wall tires being on the inside it is missing the front left center cap. All glass is original and not blemed. The interior of the car is 100% stock, the leather interior is in very good condition with the exception of the passenger outer top of the seat have having a small tear. The dash has a small split and so does the driver door arm rest. All gauges light signals and horn where are working and the cars equipped with an optional factory 8 track radio and working Ac that just need a shot of Freon to get it cold. This 300 runs very well having always been cared for, the car runs cool, shifts nicely through all the gears, brakes and suspension also are in good working condition. Dodge Dart pushed toward the grave with simplified lineup
Tue, Apr 12 2016FCA announced a while back that the Dodge Dart and its Chrysler 200 half-sibling are on the way out due to lack of interest. The 2016 model year will be the Dart's last, and Dodge has just reconfigured the lineup mid-year to lower (relative) pricing and streamline ordering. Streamlined is a nice way of saying there will be fewer choices, with three models (down from five) and limited customization beyond choosing the paint color. The odd thing is that the Dart continues to offer three different engines. And while the prices of the individual models have decreased, the former SE base trim is now gone. That means an early-2016 Dart was available for as little as $17,990, while the late-2016 Dart starts at $18,990. For that sum you get the new base model, the SXT Sport, which replaces the SXT and comes with the 2.0-liter Tigershark four-cylinder (160 horsepower, 148 lb-ft of torque) and a six-speed manual; a six-speed automatic is an available option. Standard equipment includes normal entry-level car stuff, black cloth upholstery, 16-inch wheels, and grille shutters that help improve fuel economy. The SXT Sport can be dressed up with one of three different appearance packages; Chrome adds bright accents to parts including the grille and door handles, Rallye has a black grille and a touring suspension, and the Blacktop package makes pretty much everything on the exterior black and includes a sport-tuned suspension. All three packages come with bigger wheels, too. From there it's on to the new Dart Turbo, for $20,490. It comes with the 1.4-liter turbo four (160 hp, 184 lb-ft of torque) and comes exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission. This is supposed to be the model for enthusiasts, which is how Dodge is selling the switch to manual-only. Ditching the disliked dual-clutch automatic that was previously offered with this engine doesn't hurt. This engine was also used in the former Aero model, as it's the most fuel-efficient in the lineup. The Turbo gets the Rallye appearance stuff and a different hood. At the top is the Dart GT Sport, starting at $21,900. It has the 184-hp, 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder and a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmission. This is the one with features, including a power driver's seat, the 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment unit, digital reconfigurable gauges, dual-zone auto climate, keyless start, and a rearview camera. The latter-part-of-2016 Dart will be available in eight colors.
Lexus LC 500 dominates 2016 EyesOn Design Awards
Wed, Jan 13 2016The Lexus LC 500 captured top honors for the best-designed production car and the best interior at the 10th annual EyesOn Design awards at the Detroit Auto Show. The awards are handed out by the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology. The Buick Avista won the concept car category, just as its four-door predecessor, the Avenir, did last year. Other winners this year included the Chrysler Pacifica, which won for the best-designed production "truck" (as crossovers and minivans are sometimes categorized), and the Audi H-Tron Quattro, which won for the best concept truck. The Acura Precision concept was also recognized for its "innovative use of color, graphics, and materials." And the new Volvo S90 was singled out for its human-machine interface. The panel of jurists this year included designers from an array of automakers and art schools. Several past honorees for the organization's LifeTime Design Achievement Award participated in the voting, including GM's Wayne Cherry, BMW DesignworksUSA founder Chuck Pelly, Hyundai's Peter Schreyer, and Jack Telnack (formerly of Ford). Telnack also served on the select panel of chief judges this year, alongside Chris Chapman from Hyundai, Dave Marek from Acura, and Stewart Reed from the Art Center College of Design. Fiat Chrysler chief still says EVs can't make money
Sun, Jun 12 2016Add Sergio Marchionne's insistence that it's impossible to make money on electric vehicle production to death and taxes among things we can all count on. The Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO, speaking in an interview with UK's Car Magazine, implied that Tesla Motors was "the iPhone of cars." The metaphor may have been mixed, as iPhones make plenty of cash for Apple, whereas Tesla has never made an annual profit from its electric vehicles. But the implication was that automakers should stick to what they know, and they don't know smartphones. Forget any upcoming presidential debates, we're waiting for one between Marchionne and Tesla chief Elon Musk. As for the development of autonomous-driving features? Those are another story, says Marchionne, and an area where he's far more in line with Musk. That's because the technology required to make a car safely accelerate, brake, and steer on its own is far cheaper than making a car with an electric drivetrain that offers similar range and performance to a car with an internal combustion engine, he says. As opposed to electrification, Fiat Chrysler has been going the route of modifying conventional powertrains via wringing out more power out of progressively smaller engines, and mating them with eight- and nine-speed transmissions. As for EVs, credit Marchionne for his consistency. Fiat Chrysler has been selling the Fiat 500e since 2013. That year, Wards Auto named the 500e motor to its 10 Best Engines list, while the 500e won Road & Track's 2013 award for best electric car. Still, Marchionne has long said that Fiat only makes the vehicle for to satisfy zero-emissions vehicle mandates in California, and that the company loses as much as $10,000 for every 500e that it sells.
