1984 Buick Century Limited Estate Station Wagon - Rare V/6 Diesel on 2040-cars
Spring, Texas, United States
Have to sell my pride and joy due to medical bills (braces are not cheap!). This is a 1984 Buick Century Limited Estate Wagon with the rare 4.3 V/6 diesel engine. Loaded with Power Windows, Power Locks, New A/C (R134a),New Power Antenna, Factory AM/FM Radio, Tilt, Cruise, Rear Window Defogger, Map Lights, Fold Flat Rear Facing Third Seat, and Luggage Rack. This was the first year GM produced this FWD Station Wagon. It was purchased new at Mack Brown Buick in Boone, NC. As best I can tell I'm the third owner. The vehicle is in very good condition. It's black with woodgrain exterior and plush cloth maroon interior with woodgrain dash and door panel trim. Some of the woodgrain (shelf paper) is peeling. Has no rust. It runs and drives great! I have taken to some local car shows and did take it to The Pate Swap Meet at Texas Motor Speedway last year and got 31 mpg driving 75 mph. Everything works on the vehicle except the cruise control and front power door locks. Fuel gauge will stop at 1/4 tank. I've had "Woody" for about 2 1/2 years now. I did A LOT of reconditioning to the vehicle when I received it. LOTS of new parts. I have some rare extra parts to with the sale. Have all the original books and manuals. Will have new Michelin tires so it will not have the white wall tires pictured (but will go with vehicle). Registered as an Antique Vehicle with rare 1984 Texas personalized license plates. Clear Texas title in hand. Has just 118,556 miles. I have almost $7,000 invested (yes I'm crazy) in Woody. Email me with any questions you have. Clark Griswold said it would make the perfect "Christmas Vacation" wagon queen family truckster. Merry Christmas!

Question of the Day: Coolest factory-supercharged car?
Thu, Apr 28 2016Last week, we discussed possible engine-swap recipients for the plentiful-in-every-junkyard Eaton-supercharged GM 3800 V6 engine. The Buicks, Oldsmobiles, and Pontiacs that came with that engine from the factory were reasonably cool, of course, but when you look at all the production cars that have been available with supercharging over the decades you can find some pretty amazing stuff. My personal favorite has to be the Paxton-blown Studebaker Larks of the early 1960s, partly because the Lark was just about the stodgiest-looking, sleepiest little sedan available in America, possibly the most ridiculous recipient of a howling force-fed V8 imaginable, and partly because of the name of the optional supercharged 289-cubic-inch V8 you could get in the Lark: Jet-Thrust! What do you say is the coolest factory-supercharged car of all time? Related Video: Auto News Buick Automotive History Performance Classics supercharger questions

Buick Cascada convertible likely dead after 2019
Tue, Oct 9 2018Opel announced it was discontinuing a few cars today, but the one that got our attention was the Cascada. The plan is to let the Opel Cascada live out its life until the end of 2019, with no replacement in the works. This brings into question the future of the Buick Cascada sold in the United States, since it's basically the same car and produced by Opel in the same factory in Poland. The Cascada has been on sale in other markets since 2012 badged as either an Opel or Vauxhall, but the Buick-badged car was only introduced in North America for the 2016 model year. Of course, Buick could decide to build the model beyond 2019, but it would need to find a new manufacturing location, convertibles aren't exactly popular, and the car would be egregiously old at that point. In other words, it looks like the Cascada is dead after 2019. We asked Buick what the game plan might be, and were told that there is nothing official to say at the moment. That's par for the course for something a manufacturer doesn't want to talk about yet, but it's also possible the announcement came as a surprise. Opel is no longer owned by GM, so the announcement actually came from the brand's new PSA ownership (the same French company that owns Peugeot and Citroen). As for the rationale behind the decision, that was a head scratcher, too. Opel/PSA said it was discontinuing the Cascada, as well as the subcompact Adam and Karl, in order to meet increasingly stringent emissions requirements and produce crossovers instead. This seems contradictory. Replacing a low-selling convertible and a pair of low-profit subcompacts with high-selling, high-profit crossovers sure seems like a solid business decision more than an emissions requirement one. Indeed, the Buick Cascada has never been a raging success in the United States either, with only 5,595 leaving the lots in 2017. It helped bring in some different kinds of customers to the Buick brand, but the impact is minute compared to a vehicle like the hot-selling Buick Encore.
